Multilingual first edition: English; German. Set inside the Vatican, the players are the Preferiti, the most likely candidates to become the next pope. The players must gather support from other cardinals, as well as gaining political influence with Louis XIV and accruing money in order to make vital 'donations'. Even assassination can't be ruled out! Eventually the white smoke will be seen and the new pope will emerge. The game is card driven and play moves quickly.
